IPF Canada

The Bricklayers and Trowel Trades International Pension Plan-Canada (IPF) was established primarily as a result of collective bargaining agreements between employers and the Union. The Plan is registered with the Pension Commission of Alberta under the Pension Benefits Act, and is also registered with Revenue Canada the Income Tax Act. The financing of the Plan is based solely on contributions by employers. Employee contributions are not permitted. Contributions are held in a trust fund for the purpose of providing benefits to eligible participants and to defray administrative expenses.

The following information is provided to let you know how the Pension Plan is operated on a day-to-day basis and who is responsible for basic decisions.

The Pension Plan is administered by a joint Board of Trustees, consisting of an equal number of Union and Employer representatives. Records and benefit payments are processed at the Fund office which is managed by an Executive Director appointed by the Board of Trustees.

Benefits Types

Five types of pensions are provided under this Plan.

  • Normal Pension
  • Unreduced Early Retirement Pension
  • Early Retirement Pension
  • Disability Pension
  • Deferred Vested Pension 

In addition, the Plan provides for a lump sum Portability Option and Survivor benefits.

Participation

You can participate in the IPF if you work for an employer who has been accepted as a contributing employer by the Trustees to contribute to the Plan and you are working in Covered Employment.
